Sometimes 99.9% Just Aint Enough

In our life sometimes, things are not just meant to be no matter how hard we work for it. We won't even know if we really are working hard enough, not until that supposed glorious moment came and we weren't part of it. How would we know that our hard work is enough for us to reach our dream? Whether we achieve it or not when we really work hard towards it, we knew within ourselves that we really did. Only sometimes 99.9%  just ain't enough.

This is my youngest brother. His name is Ceasar Andrew. He just graduated from college with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education Major in Physical Science.

I wrote this blog mainly because of him. His struggles in school had also been ours (maybe not totally since it was still him whose struggling) but somehow we felt what he felt. The anxiety on whether he'll be able to graduate or not because of their research thesis, his tiresome travel to and from 3 places, the excitement of the possibility of graduating with flying colors, the anticipation of waiting for the result of the final list of graduate and sadness when we all learn that he was not included in the final list of Latin Honors.

Have you experienced that kind of feeling, where you have been keeping on pushing yourself more for you know your dream is only a hairline within your reach and just when you thought it was all over and done with, you were totally crushed for you weren't able to get it? You've been totally confused on a lot of WH questions. How did it happen? Why did it happen? Where did I fall short? I guess that's how my brother felt that time.

What my brother did was to go to the school registrar's office and ask for his GWA. He wanted it to be all clear for he doesn't want to have any ill feeling towards his Alma Mater or anyone in particular. Only to find out after the school registrar said that his GWA was 1. 76 and he only missed to get that extra 0.01 for him to be a Cum Laude. It saddened him. I guess anyone who worked hard for it will be totally devastated much worse knowing you fall short for just 0.01%.

We may be sad but just as I told him, we should look at it on the bright side because even though his hard work hadn't paid him back enough on what he was expecting, he managed to graduate with flying colors. He received a Teaching Proficiency Award for his excellent and very competent teaching skills. His hard work didn't go in vain for he got a high GWA. We may not be able to admit it but it is somehow difficult to graduate in college with an equivalent or higher than 80%. Not a lot of students are lucky enough to achieve it.

 With this, I realized that we should always give it our best shot and never settle for less. Just as our father told us "I'm not disappointed that he didn't graduate as a Cum Laude because I know he give it his best". 

 May be my brother's best wasn't good enough just as the song goes. He didn't realized it until later after he graduated. It may have saddened him but he didn't regret it for he knew he gave his best. He may not able to reach for the moon but at least he landed among the stars. If at the beginning he already settle for less and didn't do his best to reach that goal he may end up having a very low GWA, a lot of failing grades or much worse he may not be able to graduate on time. And because he gave it his best, aside from receiving an award, he landed on a job even before he march on his graduation. He was offered a 3 year contract on one of the prestigious high school in our province. Just as his fellow graduates are struggling to find a job he's now busy working on his teaching lessons for his 4th year high school students. Well sometimes 99.9% just ain't enough because it turned out to be more than enough.

My brother learned a lot of lesson from that experience. It didn't dishearten him but all the more that it motivated him to do better than  before and be a better version of himself. When disappointments came don't lose hope. Look at the bright side, you may not know there are good things that had been allotted for you to have than what you've been aiming for. God's plan is greater than our own plans we just need to trust in HIM. Let us always give it our best and God will take care of the rest.

We are so proud of you brother dear!! God bless on your teaching career, You may never lose your passion and love for  teaching for I know that it is also your happiness and I know that a lot of students learn from the way you teach physics and chemistry. Not all high school students are lucky enough to have a teacher like you are. You know we are all here for you, for us all to support each other. We never get tired in dreaming, kaya bawi tayo sa board exam hehe.
